It's no news that we Africans pretty much
take religion more seriously than any other continent, it’s easy to forget that
the white man brought religion to us because of how so far gone they are from
it these days, the level of deviation and back sliding is somewhat alarming and
quite questionable. Now I’m not saying religion is bad, we just take it to
levels that is cloaked in hypocrisy and lies. In Naija, almost everywhere you
turn, there's a church there and sometimes more than 4 on the same street in a
residential area, even worse you can find 2 churches in the same plaza, once
they have night vigil just join them in your house because you won't be able to
sleep anyway. One of the good things about churches in Abuja is they are not
located in residential areas or at least most of them and although it makes the
journey to church a bit lengthy, at least it helps others with other faiths as
regards noise and comfort. (More after The cut).
In Abuja, its church business with a drop of politics, where the rich are the
pastor's favorites and can act as they please as long as their tithe and fat
vows keep coming in, the poor are neglected and if possible sidelined from the
church. It’s all about packaging and branding which less likely involves the
word of God and more about prosperity and battle seeds, in fact there are some
churches that poor people can't even attend because it’s too high class for
them, imagine a church where there are senators, commissioners, top business
men etc, coming to church in expensive cars, dressed to impress, using
their gadgets as bible, even you that has normal hard copy bible will be
feeling somehow, fat enveloped offerings, everything soft. All these things
kinda like distractions from the actual word of God which makes up 20% of
why they even attend the church. If you're just managing and just normal, will
you even want to attend? When it’s like church now has to do with class?
There's a lot going on that are far from what God wants from us as humans in my
opinion. I went to a church in Abuja and it honestly felt like I was at a
show and I went there because someone told me it was and he wasn't lying.
Church like VMAs perfectly organized for entertainment and enticement for those
with high taste. I'm not saying church shouldn't be posh and embrace
technology o, all I'm about is why is church now a form of business? Why
does the church give preferential treatment to the rich and abandon the poor?
Some churches in Abuja don't even have poor people among them because shame
won't allow you attend church dressed like that, with no car or gadgets to
flaunt during the service. In Abuja you see pastor's lobbying for presidential
visit as advertorial and as a way of getting money too. Well now that the
president is not a Christian I'm sure it’s bad market for many. Please what is
going on in the church?
(The Picture Above does not imply that I'm referring to it in particular, its just to illustrate my post)
Part 2 will be out.
